Great people watching, exercise options, an awesome old pool... and you can ride your bike all around it and frighten women pushing strollers.

Located in a residential neighborhood of Williamsburg, McCarren Park is a welcome patch of greenery just a 10 minute walk from the Lorimer stop on the L train. The track is a decent one for jogging, as long as you're prepared to dodge hipsters with guitars, kids playing soccer and the occasional family dragging a BBQ grill across the track and onto the grass. The park hosts outdoor concerts during the summer, so be sure to check the schedule online if you're visiting during the warmer months.

Description

McCarren Park sits in the Greenpoint neighborhood of Brooklyn on 35 acres. It features year-long activity for Brooklyn residents of all walks, with basketball courts, football fields, ice-skating rinks, playgrounds and running tracks. One popular attraction is a series of free or reduced-price Sunday concerts held during the summer known as 'Pool Parties.' These concerts have featured both big name and local acts performing on what was once a huge swimming pool until it was shut down, renovated and eventually reopened as a pool and performance arts space. The space was shut down for further renovation in 2008, but is scheduled to reopen in June 2012.
