With McMenamins, some locals might see a regional chain among a plethora of more interesting choices. Ah Portlandia!
After visiting a number of their establishments, I'm reminded of the huge Pappas chain in Houston. Both that Bayou City family and the McMenamin Brothers have their various concepts and execute them consistently well. And for those lucky enough to enjoy their refurbished historical properties, the music offerings, plenty of opportunities for food and drink, and good hard working friendly service, that's our gain.
The best deal for me last night at McMenamins on Broadway was a half a turkey sandwich and a cup of a delicious Indonesian Chicken soup for $5. Happy hour beer prices helped too. The Kid enjoyed his fish and chips, while we both looked out over a rainy Irvington District evening. It was just enough food for both of us, as we enjoyed hanging out with each other. I'm also thrilled that my almost 16 year old still wants to be seen in public with me! As long as I don't embarrass him of course....Recommended for:
