Once upon a time (early 1900s) this district was known for numerous slaughter houses and various cuts of meat. Now it's a swank neighborhood filled with some of NYC's best restaurants, lounges, and clubs. On a nice evening, people have the option to dine outside restaurants along the side of the streets and then go to the rooftop lounge in the Gansevoort or Standard Hotel to enjoy a cocktail with a view.

This area used to be the meatpacking district, but a decade or two ago was when it evolved into a nightlife and area known for high fashion (Alexander McQueen, DVF, etc). In the evenings this area is full to people lining up for clubs and lounges!

Very cool atmosphere with hip boutiques and restaurants in old factory buildings. Don't forget about close by Buddakan - excellent food in great atmosphere. This is where the reheasal dinner for Carrie (Sex and the City) was filmed.

The Meatpacking District used to be just that, but now it has been taken over by hipsters and the like. The old buildings are still there, and some of the streets have the old cobbles. High Line Park ends here and has some of the original tracks that moved the meat around.

The Meatpacking district has tons of exclusive nightclubs, lounges and restaurants. Lots of celebrities hangout down in this area and it is loaded with models from all over. Also at the same time, the drinks can be very expensive but worth it to check out.

Bridge and tunnel central. The fashion side of it tugs at me but the nightlife and entertainment here have a high douche factor... and I never say "douche."

Some of the best restaurants, designer stores and beautiful hotels. The High Line walk way offers one the best views of Jersey and the surrounding areas.

Lots of fun, but ladies, don't wear spikey heels. You WILL fall. If you want to wear heels in this neighborhood, go for wedges. There's way too many wonky cobblestones in this area.

As the name suggests, this is where...meat used to be...packed (I guess?) in new york. This no longer happens here, instead this is where the trendier clubs can be found (a joke exists here somewhere). In any case, if you can get past the bounder (read: attractive girl, numerous girls, early entry, know someone, pay lots of money) it can be a good time. Usually a solid DJ scene as well.

10 years ago I would have given this area 5 stars...today over-run by hipsters and just too trendy....I grieve for the 10-year-old district! But Alexander Wang, Yigal Azrouel, and Stella McCartney boutiques among other shops and eats bring me back ;)

Probably my favourite area to hang out, eat and drink during my last visit. Loved the cobble stone streets... went to a few fab restaurants - very hip scene.

I simply love this area of NY. This is a fantastic place for really interesting shopping, from Diane Von Furstenberg, Laboutin .... To unknown but very fashionable brands here and there. Restaurants and cafes are gorgeous and also a couple of clubs are really enjoyable. You could take a walk on the old upper railway, now a kind of promenade and enjoy a drink anywhere.
