The Medici Chapels form part of the monumental complex of San Lorenzo. The church of San Lorenzo was the official church of the Medici. In these worked Michelangelo as architect and as sculptor.

The beautiful ceilings in this place make it worth the visit. I was incredibly sad that they didn't allow photography inside. I have no visuals to show off!

Fantastic Museum - very impressive private Chapel of the Medici family. One was done from Michelangelo. Defenitly worth visiting.

The Medici chapel was stunning, for both its marble interiors and marble statues. Both the Chapel of the Princes and the New Sacristy are worth a look, particularly for the impressive Michelangelo statues in the New Sacristy.

Description

The Medici Family was a political dynasty in the Republic of Florence and wielded power and influence across the city and beyond. They considered the San Lorenzo Basilica their own “private” church and between the 16th and 17th century had a marbled sepulture constructed adjacent to it, where much of the family now is buried. Michelangelo himself created the Sacristy dedicated to the memories of ... read more
