Fez is the religious capital of Morocco and has over 270 mosques in the ancient medina, which is the largest of the ancient imperial cities. Definitely worth a trip to explore all of its rich history, culture, and sights.Recommended for:

You could get lost for days in the markets and hidden passageways of the old walled city in Fez. If you look like a tourist, you'll have touts following your for most of the way, but you never know -- you might need their help just to find your way back out again! We hired a guide, but in the end don't think we really needed one. If you have a good sense of direction and an adventurous spirit, you can explore on your own. Don't miss seeing the patios choc-a-block with colorful pots of dye where leather is colored.Recommended for:

Visiting medina of Fez was one of the highlight of my trip while I was in Morocco. Its medina is relatively smaller than the one at Meknes but it is more charming (don't get tempted shopping here if you intend to go to Marrakech as it has more choices).
