Medora is a small rural town in South Dakota that has some attraction to it, plus the Theodore Roosevelt Southern Unit National Park. Disability access and disability parking is limited. You will need about 3 days for area's attraction.

This area is the epicenter of the western mythology of North Dakota. The town was a sleepy little town when a French nobleman came to build a meat packing plant and named the town for his wife.

Shortly there after Theodore Roosevelt came and spent the next 4 years ranching and sorting out his life after the death of his wife.

The town is a typical summer tourist town with a western feel.

A couple of highlights are the Medora musical and the pitchfork fondue. The fondue is really just steaks cooked in boiling oil on the end of pitchforks.

The real attraction is the scenery and the wildlife.

Description

The southern gateway to Theodore Roosevelt National Park sports a population of just over 110. Wild horses and bison still roam the nearby prairie. The little town has a number of cowboy tributes and historical sites and hosts an annual old-time Christmas fair throughout the city every December.
