You can't find a more iconic sporting ground in Australia than the MCG. In a sports mad country this is the shine where legends are forged. Whether you come to watch Cricket and struggle to stay awake or to watch Aussie Rules Football and struggle to understand the game you'll definitely be entertained.

The Melbourne Cricket Ground (locals call it the MCG) is a popular stadium to watch cricket games and Australia Rules Football. The spectators will wear scarves and caps to represent their loyalty to a specific team. I'm not a sports person, but I enjoyed the liveliness and had fun watching the football games.Recommended for:Local Culture

The Melbourne Cricket Ground, or MCG as it is called, is what many Aussies would consider the main stadium for the entire country. It holds international Cricket matches here, but can also have other events, like Aussie Rules football, with rival Melbourne teams like the Collingwood Magpies, St Kilda, Carleton and the Richmond Tigers going at it.

There's no such thing as a bad seat at the MCG with most seats undercover.
Level Two is a favorite level of footy fans and probably cricket fans to. Level One is close to the action and from Level Three you have a great view of the entire ground.
There are huge screens so you wont miss any of the in close play. There are also hundreds of large wide-screen televisions mounted around the stadium so if you go to get food or drink you can keep watching the game.
Access to the stadium is not a problem as it located next to trains, trams, buses and is only a ten minute walk from Melbourne's CBD.
The MCG must be in the top ten stadiums of the world.

If you're in Melbourne during the Footy season, don't miss the opportunity to see a game at the "G", as the locals call it. They're deservedly proud of this stadium and constantly refer to it as 'one of the great sporting venues of the world'.

Best place in the Australia to witness all that is the AFL. They do tours too but I can't remember if they cost anything. Still get tickets to see some old Victorian based teams (Essendon, Collingwood, Carlton or Melbourne) during footy season and you won't regret it.
