Raaar! Don't miss this iconic statute, it's a lovely walk around the marina with great views of the Marina Bay Sands and excellent photo ops.

Impossible to miss so you might as well see it. This has to be one of the most artificial tourist attractions on the planet. Despite its lack of authenticity, it still has some charm. The real attraction here is being on the water front.

I tend to avoid the tourist hot spots but this is a nice one and while in Singapore you should try to visit, not only to get a snap of yourself besides the Merlion, but for the gorgeous view of the Marina Bay Sands Hotel. And it's free.

The view is great and the marina is nice. Just be sure to dress for HOT weather during the sunny days. Restaurants and several cafes (Starbucks and a Coffee Bean, I believe) are really close by.

An excellent spot to admire the Marina Bay Sands view - ideally this is to be combined with a trip to Clarke Quay via water taxi.

Witness the famous Merlion statue here and click the famous photograph where the water coming from the Merlion's mouth falls in yours!! Its sounds yuck, but the photo idea is amazing.

A big, sort of strange but also cool statue. Great view from here of the undeniably cool Marina Bay Sands.

There's actually not much to see at Merlion Park beside the Merlion spewing water into Singapore Bay. Still it's a landmark in the city with the official symbol.

Merlion is the symbol of Singapore, it is not complete if you visit Singapore without visiting the Merlion

I wonder if the merlion is ever threatened to be taken over as the symbol of Singapore with all the new and exciting architecture and structures being built. My guess is likely not the least threatened because of the continuous stream of tourists visiting it. Then again, are they there for him? Or for the fantastic view of the marina bay that it affords?

Merlion Park is the home to the original statue of the Merlion, the mascot of Singapore. It was a pretty cool statue that shot water out from its mouth. Definitely a great photo op area.

This is a pretty cool place to just kick it for a bit. There are a lot of areas where you can relax with friends and just soak in Singapore.

Its hot... yet oddly if you dont mind the funny water being sprayed on you... well, exactly that, the funny smelling water is rather refreshing since it's being shot out of the merlions mouth and casting spray everywhere.

And minus one for the all the other tourists that are there like you and I. I try not to get into everyones way, but unfortunately I cant speak for everyone.

I heard that the Merlion was created as a way of bringing tourism to the country as there is no real explanation to why there is a half lion/ half mermaid existing otherwise.

Experience the joy of taking perspective pictures in all sorts of combinations with the lion's water spouting mouth and whatever personal appendages/orafices you seem fitting.

Observed tourist favorite perspective position: holding up the merlion with one hand.

The boardwalk around the bay is beautiful. It shows you numerous differing architectural styles within a few kilometers of each other and it really creates a unique image for Singapore. The statue itself is huge and beautiful and as a 'symbol' for Singapore, is pretty kick ass!

Description

The Merlion, a creature with a lion's head and the body of a fish, is a prominent sculpture in downtown Singapore and an icon of this modern city. This particular park is most popular at night when the sculpture lights up with brilliant colors, though it spews water from its mouth continuously throughout the day.
