A fabulous restaurant in Waimea (about 20 miles from our condo) for that "special" night out. It's away from the beaches and a bit cooler up there, but the food and wine list is incredible. Discover it...and go with an appetite.Recommended for:

Found along Kawaihae road on the way into Kamuela, Merriman's is a culinary home run. The food is from local sources and is mind boggling. There are many specials of local fish, pork, beef - and if you can't make up your mind, you can have a mini-portion of two main courses!! Also, the wine list is world class. Yum.Recommended for:

A little pricey, but totally worth the stop. We came here for lunch and had a good time. I had the Chinese spare ribs (a little salty), my dad had the fresh local fish (dry, despite supposedly being medium-rare) and my mom had the burger made with local beef (amazing; one of the best burgers I've had in awhile).
Prices aren't too bad during lunch (average: $13/plate), but they are much higher during dinner (average: $40/plate), though the dinner menu is significantly more fancy.
Stop by for lunch if you want to sample some local dishes in a more casual price range. Reservations aren't necessarily, at least not during the week.Recommended for:
