Located in Lake Victoria, it is the perfect place to get away and relax. It is run by the same company that manages Governors' Camp in the Mara, but this property out on the lake is seldom visited. You can fly right into the private landing strip on the island and take a quick 20 minute boat ride over to the property.
The different lodges are all spaces out along the lake shore, offering views and island breezes. The best part of the stay is probably the chef Tom, who can cook a Nile Perch in about 100 different ways, each dish more delicious than the last.
The stay includes all activities, but sadly the lodge is lacking a little innovation on this front. There is a fishing boat you can take out for some Nile Perch trolling, or to tour around the island to villages or for a short hike. However, they could really use some kayaks, stand-up paddle boards, and a serious upgrade on their bikes. We were also a little disappointed when we asked for a dhow (traditional sailboat) to be organized but the caretakers could not get it done.
