Never been to Detroit before, and wasn't expecting much. The MGM, however, is a very cool hotel. There is a casino, but they do a good job I totally separating the hotel part. And good restaurants there in the casino if you want them.

Ahhhh-pulence. Glide into the hotel lobby to a soothing soundtrack of organs and running water. Get your key and ascend a smooth escalator there to expressly convey that “we’re taking you to a better place” feeling. It works. This place is the most luxurious of the three casino hotels, with more restaurants, more extras and more stars than any other place in Detroit. Rooms start at $209 a night (cheaper online) and are plush, with standard evening turndown service (cute!) and flat-screen televisions embedded in the bathroom mirror so you don’t have to miss a second of “Jersey Shore.” Non-gamblers will like it too, as it’s slightly more separate from the casino and has a beautiful living room area for hotel guests only. The spa is enormous and offers just about anything you could ever (legally) ask for, from hot stones to hair removal.

After walking through a dizzying array of restaurants, lounges and bars on one of the largest gaming floors in Detroit, I decided to step in and check out what the hotel had to offer. The living room style lobby is lit up by a massive electric fire and the cozy couches made me feel as if this could be my home had I hit it big at the black jack table. The serenity of the moment was highlighted by a nice cup of complimentary coffee and none of the noise from the casino floor. The loft style suite offered a sweeping view of the city and the comfy pillow top beds felt delightful. The bathroom has built in flat screen television, which is nice for listening to music while taking a long bath in the oversized tub. Guests of MGM are also welcomed to the Immerse spa, complete with cabanas pool side for lounging, having a snack, or in between any of the full array of services offered at the spa. The hotel also offers free valet and a 4 star service staff at your beckon call. Saltwater, Bourbon Steak, and Wolfgang Puck all have restaurants in the casino which tops off the luxury Vegas feeling you get from this hotel. Saltwater has a great $5 dollar appetizer happy hour and drink special from 5:30 - 7:30. It is the premier of casino stays in Detroit and highly recommended.
