Michigan Avenue Bridge

North Michigan Avenue and East Wacker Drive, Chicago, IL 60601

The Michigan Avenue Bridge is an easy way to cross the Chicago River, though it's even more exciting when the bridge goes up to let the boats go by.

Great place to go for a stroll amid all the big buildings. I took some great pictures of the reflections on buildings off the water and onto other buildings.

A spectacular way to learn about Chicago architecture (when the weather is good). All of the architectural tours are fantastic but spending time on the water gives you a bit of distance and a chance to really observe. One of my favorite Chicago tourist experiences.

The walking area along the Chicago River was well thought out. There are two levels of the Riverwalk filled with benches, small park areas and restaurants. Take a snapshot here from almost any angle and have it look distinctively Chicago.

Exactly what a jazz club should be....cozy, good drinks....great place talk and listen to great music. My husband and I walked passed a packed club (could hear the bass like two blocks away) and we both looked at each other and said "I'm so glad we didn't go there". ;)

Wendalla runs several sorts of boat tours on Lake Michigan and the Chicago River. I like the architecture tours that take you up the river to highlight the buildings on the river banks. Take a sunset tour so you end up on the lake at twilight to see the cityscape lit up.

This should be the first, and will be the best thing you do in Chicago. Amazingly knowledgable guides from Chicago's architecture foundation give you a history of the Chicago skyline, and you'll enjoy their stories sipping on some excellent bloody marys.

The chocolates here are so good!!! As one of the chocolate vendors part of the Chicago Chocolate Tour, Fannie May gave us the chocolate pixie (turtle) and two FM Artisan fine chocolates to sample: the dark chocolate and apple pie. So delicious, especially the apple pie. Coated with a red sugar coating, once you bite into it, it really tastes ...

Almost every Saturday and Wednesday in June. This free event is spectacular in how they time the music to the explosions. You can also watch the show along the lake path all the way to Adler Planetarium, but you'll miss the music. Schedule --> http://www.navypier.com/things2do/fireworks.html
