Who doesn't like Mochi or Gelato? This place has both! Located in the Little Tokyo Village Plaza. Definitely a spot to stop by after a meal. It was my first time and definitely not my last time. Here are the two items I ordered:
Green Tea Mochilato
- This is a popular item according to the staff. I can definitely taste the green tea and great texture of the Mochi.
- Good chunk of pistachio but not creamy enough, and a bit icy.
Mochi is what you should get here, as ice cream is clearly not their specialty. Staff is helpful, good value for what you get. There are plenty of tables inside.Recommended for:

Mikawaya is a classic. Ever seen those popular Mochi Ice Cream available in most Asian grocery stores? Mikawaya is the creator.
I know. You are not a big fan of those mass produced mochi ice cream. Me neither.
Rest assured. What you can get from this Mikawaya store is way better than those frozen ones in a box. Their mochilatos (mochi gelato) are not available elsewhere. They have a much softer texture than regular mochi ice cream. Not all of their gelato flavors stood out that much but the guava and green tea ones were nice.
It might not be best mochi nor the best gelato I have had but how can you say no to such lovely frozen treats under some hot weather?Recommended for:

It's a nice place to stop by when you're walking around in Little Tokyo :) $1 mochi ice cream is a bit pricey but not a bad deal if you want to try different flavors.
What my sis and I ordered:
- Green tea mochi ice cream is still my number one (red beans too).
- Creme brule mochi ice was too subtle, it tasted like vanilla ice cream.
- Peaches & Cream mochi ice was pretty good, I approve!
- Guava mochi ice was ok. The ice cream was great but it was a weird combo with the sweet mochi
Get some napkins if you're going to walk around and eat.Recommended for:

$1 for mochi ice cream
One scoop ice cream $2.55
Opens till 10pm on weekdays! Parking in the Japanese Village Lot free with validation (time is limited to about 2 hours).
Green Tea Ice Cream Mochi - Light in Flavor, would not get again (3 stars)
Red Bean Ice Cream Mochi - Perfect, no beans inside. Super yummy (5 stars)
Strawberry Ice Cream Mochi - Yummy, tangy and delicious (4 stars)
Lots of flavor here with Mochi and straight ice cream and gelato itself. Super good and fresh Mochi, can't beat the freshness here. Limited seating available inside.

Love the mochi ice cream and gelato mochi here!
The ice cream ones are not much different than the ones you can buy at the grocery store, but they're fresh and you can get one of each flavor, instead of a 6 pack of a single flavor. On the other hand, they are more expensive here than the grocery store, so I guess you are paying for the novelty and convenience of it.
Ice cream mochi are $1 each
Mochilato (gelato mochi) are $1.25
Flavors include green tea, strawberry, coffee, chocolate, vanilla, mango, coconut, pistachio, hazelnut, mint chip, and more!
This shop also sells other goodies, including scoops of ice cream, but the main draw is these frozen bites of bliss. Buy one to eat now, or buy by the six pack to enjoy later!

I love mochi. Especially RED BEAN! :)
When you come into this spacey joint, you are greeted with an array of mochi. OMG, being the mochi lover I am, I melted. (Not literally.) There they were, cute little puffs of sweet rice covering the cool tasty bits of ice cream you are dying to put into your mouth. As much as I wanted to stuff my mouth with a bunch of them, my body told me no. It was already full from the nearby sushi (Teri.. I have a review on that place too!) So I ordered one mochi of my favorite flavor, red bean. The mochi felt so fresh and delicious. Only $1 too.
I should come here again and stuff myself with a bunch of them, including the mochialtos (mochi w/ gelato instead of ice cream). Yeah, they have those too!

$1.25 for mochilato (gelato and mochi) - yummy
Kinda small but good
GOOD: Green tea, almond, and creme brulee
It's cool in there. On a hot day, mochi ice cream sounds good.
PARKING: Street or lots
Hard to find. It's right at the center of the Lil Tokyo plaza.
