Lake Oswego is one of the nicer areas surrounding Portland. Very good schools, very nice community, very good place to grow up. While it doesn't have a huge nightlife, it's quite peaceful.

Troutdale is a small city in the gorge near the river on the way out of Portland to the Dalles. It's got a great outlet mall and some small little shops, but otherwise is a stop on the way to Portland or other areas.

Corbett is a small registered community located in the mouth of the Columbia River Gorge. It's a lovely area and is about a thirty minute drive from Portland, Oregon.

Tigard is like a suburb mushed between Beaverton and Lake O. It's definitely something you pass through but might not even notice when you do. Also, because it's a main artery for a lot of roads, it's a pain to drive through at certain times.

Oregon City is a nice little city outside of Portland. Mainly known for the end of the Oregon Trail (which there's a museum here to celebrate that). It's in good proximity to Portland so lots to do, can come here for a 1/2 day.

Aloha is probably one of the more "worn down" suburbs west of Portland. It's not as ideal as Beaverton, or rural as Hillsboro. Just in-between. You'll find yourself going to Portland a lot if you live here.
