Nice little park by the water. It's much less crowded than the beaches and there are grassy areas to camp out on for those that don't like sand. There's still sand though for those that want to play in it.
Great place for joggers, cyclists, roller bladers, skateboarders and people who just want to relax and enjoy the water.
Stick around for sunset.

One of the most family-friendly among all of San Diego's beach towns, laidback Mission Beach has an oceanfront amusement park and a pearly stretch of sand that gets hugely crowded on summer weekends.

Home to water sports, barbecuers, picknickers, kite-fliers, and Sea World! There is actually an aquatic park that encompasses Mission Bay, and is the largest of its kind in the world. Play at the beach, visit the marine life at Sea World, or romp around the green fields with your family, kids, and dogs. Mission Bay is kind of the heart of San Diego's Saturday family day out.Recommended for:Family Travelers

The water is a bit too brown sometimes because of maybe a lot of the leftover beer that people accidentally spilled from Floatopia but it's one of the great water marks in San Diego. You see it as you're driving from OB to PB and you also see it when you drive to Sea World.

A great location on San Diego for water sports. On a pleasant day, (practically every day since the weather here is so fantastic) you can see kayakers, paddle boarders, jet skiers, and even swimmers enjoying the Bay Beaches. I wouldn't suggest swimming here, as the waters can get pretty polluted, but still it's a fun way to spend some time by the water. There are abundant parks and trails too; so if roller skating, bicycling or walking is more your speed, there's plenty of places for that. All in all, this is a great area, and one I highly recommend.

Mission Bay is a perfect day trip destination. Whether you're into watersports, camping, or theme parks (SeaWorld!), you'll find it here. Personally, my favorite thing to do at Mission Bay is just walk along the pedestrian paths and enjoy the scenery. Also, there's plenty of open green space where you can picnic or fly kites.

The bay is beautiful, quiet and sunny. It's also home to Scripps Marina which is where the Navy does a lot of research and trains dolphins to help guard their ships. Pretty amazing!! If you've not seen the bay recently, you may want to. There is a beautiful new arrival! Harbor Wing Technologies is keeping its newest treasure, the Sea Sentinel. This autonomous vessel is not only fascinating with it's new wing-sail technology it's also very green, using solar, wind and hydroelectric power. It can do things an ordinary sailboat cannot do, and everyone from the US Navy to NOAA is keen to get their hands on her. In Misison Bay you can now spot the future of sailing!! I should know, I took the photos! : )
Have a look at this link to see her prototype in Pearl Harbor:
