The historic and spiritual center of San Francisco the Mission Dolores should draw a greater number of locals and tourists too appreciate it. The basilica is adorned with stained glass tributes to each of the Alta California missions founded along El Camino Real.

Built by Spanish missionaries in 1791, the Mission Dolores is San Francisco's oldest building. Still in the center of Bay Area Latino culture -- the Mission District -- the historic adobe building is just a few blocks away from dozens of cultural icons of the city. Start at Mission Dolores and wind your way down Mission Street to Balmy Alley, where colorful murals tell the story of the neighborhood's more recent history.
