Ah, liquor. The cocktail menu here is divided by poison (rum, gin, tequila etc) and further into classic cocktails and innovative. The innovative are well balanced, refreshing affairs so tasty that you barely notice you're getting toasty. I didn't try the classic ones. Are you drinking these cocktails in a grungy dive? No, you are drinking them in a low-lit, loungey but classy environment in Notting Hill.

Get over the fact that it's probably full of fund managers on a first date, just let them talk shop in the corner. Concentrate on the cocktails here, and enjoy the mellow moods of its Manhattan style and their laid back beats.
Considered one of the best places to get a decent cocktail in town, the barmen are at the top of their game here. Study the menu carefully, there is plenty to choose from. But if you can't read, or are looking for something new, then tell these guys what you’re into and they'll pimp you your own drink. Old gramophones, antique cocktail shakers and trombone lamps surround you, hit the drinks hard enough and you’ll feel like you’re back in the 50’s hanging with Hemingway. It's super civilised and easy to come to, the tapas style food is great, just don't expect a cheap night and you won't be disappointed.

The design inherent in a well-crafted cocktail is apparent at first sip, and Montgomery Place stands up to the test.
