Go up to Montjuïc – great views, interesting fortress… check times for the fountain show at the base of the steps where the Palace building is – the fountain show is spectacular. While you are there at Montjuïc, you can also visit Miro museum which is nice.

Very cool castle overlooking Barcelona. The fort itself is nice, but the real attraction are the views of Barcelona and the sea

With its dark history as a prison and site of torture and executions, Montjuïc’s castle may not seem an obvious choice for a family day out. The main reason people make the trek (or catch the cable car) up here though are the awe-inspiring views over the city and docks below. Kids will enjoy peeking through the crenels and clambering over the canons placed strategically around the fortress walls, and there are a couple of open-air cafes for refreshments afterwards.

Make the climb up Montjuic, either by cable car or with a leisurely but steep walk through the vast and charming gardens of the park and you will be rewarded with a key part of Barcelona history and stunning views. The walls of Montjuic castle could tell many tales, particularly from the civil war period where many on the Republican side were imprisoned and shot. Yet the castle also affords you a magnificent vista of the sprawl of the city, the distant hills leading into the Catalan interior and the bustle of the ports and shipping below. Free.

Did get up there until near the very end of my trip but really glad I made it to the top before I left Barcelona. Amazing to see entire city from a castle on the hill. I walked up to the top but then took the teleferic and fenicular down. The cable car was really amazing!

We happened upon Castell de Montjuïc by accident since we were on our way to the Museu Nacional d'Art de Catalunya. We decided to ride the Telefèric de Montjuïc (sky tram) up in search of the Botanic Gardens. Little did we know, Castle Montjuïc was right there. So we decided to check it out. As with most stone buildings fortified in the 1700s, it's dreadfully cold. The views of the city are amazing. Especially on a clear day. Check it out because it's free to visit! Kind of neat to check out and a great place to bring a picnic to.

Neat castle to explore at the top of the mountain, for free! I especially loved the trails around the grounds that led into parks. The views out onto the city are awesome!

Taken from the top of Las Arenas, this view of Montjuic is gorgeous - and it's no Monet, either - it just gets better up close.

Fascinating fortress on top of the hills of Montjuc.. The castle is nice, a bit touched up, but the views of the sea, the shipping yards and the rest of the city is amazing

Castell de Montjuïc is still one of the coolest places in Barcelona. It is located in Montjuic, which is a green area of Barcelona. Montjuic is spread over a small hill/mountain and offers many cultural attractions and fantastic views of Barcelona. :)))

Absolutely great view of the city and Mediterranean. You have to check out all the levels - it was like this castle was an entire mountain itself!

Awesome castle right in the downtown area of Barcelona. You take a cable car to the top of the mountain where the castle is located and there are amazing views of both the sea and city

Стоящий на высоте 173 метра над уровнем моря замок Монтжуик — живое напоминание о многочисленных перипетиях истории каталонской столицы. Отсюда открывается потрясающий и одновременно максимально широкий вид на город.

If you're looking to see a castle, this is it! It's not as pretty or as grand you might expect, but it is a castle nonetheless that overlooks the city! Walking up through the castle takes you to another time, and the cannons and courtyards are all still intact. Best of all, it's free!

Off the beaten path, but well worth the trip. Getting to Montjuic Castle is half the fun! Take the Funicular to the base of the mountain where you then take a scenic ride on the Teleferic to the top. The views from the Teleferic and Montjuic Castle are spectacular and really give visitors a feel for how expansive Barcelona is. In the distance, you can see the massive Sagrada Familia towering over its surroundings. The views of the seashore and the city are amazing. Take time to read about the history of this castle which was built in 1640.

A nice place if you love great views (it's a panoramic spot), but there's nothing else there. The only attraction is the building and some old cannons.

Also it can be difficult getting there if you are not going by bus, then the way is not very clear so it's easy to get lost before arriving. Of course the same happens the way back to the city.

The castle is not very big but the view from the top of the mountain is wonderful. The water and boats make for a great sight. You can take a teleferic (cable car) up to the castle and again you have a nice view. Then to make things cooler, you can take another teleferic down to the beach.

Description

Montjuïc Castle is a large fortress located on the top of Montjuïc hill in Barcelona, Spain.
