This beach can get packed in the summer but it is totally worth fighting the crowd! A nice spot to hang out with your family and you can bring your dog! If you're looking for the best dog beach though, try Foster Avenue Beach nearby.

A bit off the beaten path. The best city "beach" in my opinion. The views from the end of the pier here are phenomenal. Doubles as the local gay beach at the heigh of summer but everyone is welcome.

Went there for a day of picnicking and hanging with friends. The beach is extremely large with plenty of volleyball courts. Does get really packed on the weekends, especially with such limited nice weather in Chicago throughout to the year.
I wouldn't go out of your way to visit if you are touring Chicago, but if you live here, great fun for a day.

A lovely place to spend the afternoon/evening. There are a few trails that, if you ignore the sounds of traffic on Lake Shore Drive, seem to teleport you out of the city and into a world of natural beauty. With beautiful views of the city from the harbor, flowers, plants, picnicking, and a beach, this is a great place for the family to enjoy some good old family fun.Recommended for:Family Travelers

Off the beaten path enough, yet still in the convenient Lakeview/Uptown/Buena Park area. Pro tip: if you like to watch dogs on the beach in their most blissful state, head to the dog beach at Montrose. It's a great way to feel good about life!
