Monument to Vittorio Emanuele II

Piazza Venezia 3, Rome 00187 Italy

The panoramic lifts, though vertigo inducing, are totally worth it. They take you to the very top where you can see every corner of the Eternal City.

The Piazza is an oval shaped courtyard designed by Michelangelo and one of the great architectural structures in Rome. It sits on top of the Capitoline Hill and is surrounded by Medieval and Renaissances palaces, one of which is now the Capitoline Museum. The statue of Marcus Aurelis sits in the Piazza, a rare surviving ancient statue. It's an exact ...

I had a live-in guide with me when I went to the forum, but you should go and read a guidebook or take a tour. Too much important history happened here to miss it. At least 30 min to over an hour needed.

Gesu was the first Jesuit church to be built in Rome. The illusionistic and rich decoration in the Nave and dome along with the gilded lapis lazuli columns in the chapel of Saint Ignatius, the founder of the Jesuit order are examples of the use of Counter Reformation Baroque architecture and design that has been imitated throughout the Catholic world

Or Monument to Vittorio Emanuele II or often dismissively called "The Typewriter." Completed in the heyday of the Mussolini years, it certainly divides opinions. The naysayers claim it's a monumental blight on the Roman treasures nearby (the Typewriter is on Piazza Venezia, at one end of the magnificent Via dei Fori Imperiali); personally, I'm 'ni chaud, ni froid' about it, ...

Sometimes you need a Guinness, and sometimes (quite often, actually) the bars and clubs in Rome don't carry this Irish medicine. Scholar's Lounge is run by a few Irishmen and have all the Guinness you could ever want. Not to mention they play British and American sports games, so if you're wandering around looking for somewhere to watch your alma ...

Very cool museum about Imperial Fora and Trajan's Market. The museum uses actual Trajan's Market ruins and houses various remains from the Imperial Fora. The self guide tour is very useful. You can take pictures inside the museum as long as you don't use flash.

Finding this was like finding some sort of treasure. Like many of Rome's fountains this one has been here for hundreds of years and the city has been built around it. This one is not far from the Pantheon.

Rome's eldest chocolatier. Entering the shop you will be lulled by chcocolate and candy smell. Praline are something crazy. There is a wide choice of different flavors. It seems to be a magic World where time has stopped.
