My partner and I spent 3 nights at the Pearl in Moorea followed by 4 nights at the Hotel Bora Bora in Bora Bora. We stayed in a Premium Overwater Bungalow at the Pearl.
Our room was lovely. The backdrop behind the hotel is also lovely. However, given the price point for the room (~$1,000 USD per night) we were quite disappointed.
Best things about the property:
- Well appointed rooms
- Close to the airport
- Lovely backdrop behind the hotel + easy access to snorkeling
Issues with the property:
- Rooms are very close together
- Beach area is unattractive and the inner lagoon area looked like a cess pool (very cloudy and water was dirty)
- Service is bad (this is endemic in French Polynesia but we felt it was worse at this property), i.e., unattentive and forgetful
Moorea is also less attractive than Bora Bora (not an issue with the property but far better locations can be had at $1,000 USD per night).
Sorry to rain on the parade for this one. We were not impressed.

Much smaller than the Sofitel or Intercontinental, but the result is more personal service without giving up any amenities. There are amazing views of the sunset and access to all the activities you could possibly want to arrange. I especially recommend the jet ski tour and the safari expedition. The overwater bungalows are worth the splurge and sit right over a lot of coral, so you can see fish of many colors swimming around from your balcony. Karen (one of the receptionists) was super helpful the entire time we were there- if you are lucky enough to meet her, you will be well taken care of!

For my second trip to Moorea, I was lucky enough to stay in an overwater bungalow at the Moorea Pearl Resort&Spa. This hotel is gorgeous, and is a great location walkable to the shops. There are garden bungalows, some of which have an extra room if you are traveling with a family, and then of course the overwaters. The hotel has a really great vibe, with a concentrion on expressing its Polynesian art and culture rather than shaping itself after just any old international hotel. It is these unique touches that make the Pearl a very special upscale resort.
The restaurant has a tasty selection, although I stick with the Poisson Cru through and through. However, you can also walk into town and try out any of the cafes along the way (I have heard Moorea Pizza is the best). I sneaked a peak at the Honeymoon package and I can tell you that the Pearl most definetly makes it a special stay for their honeymooers.
