One of rome's most charming fountains. Great in all weather and amidst one of the most inviting squares. During the summer, it's also a nice place to cool down.

Bernini left his mark on this city like none other, and the only reason this beautiful fountain might be overshadowed is because he constructed a much grander one at the heart of Piazza Navona. Silly goose.

Secondary to the other sights in Piazza Navona but nice enough and a bit less crowded.

Rome has many decadently sculpted fountains throughout the city. The Moro Fountain is one of them. Located in Piazza Navona and designed in 1575, the Fountain adds a layer of Roman majestic grandeur to the Plaza.

At the southern end of the Piazza Navona is the beautiful Fontana del Moro (Fountain of the Moor) with a basin and four Tritons sculpted by Giacomo della Porta (1575) to which, in 1673, Bernini added a statue of a Moor wrestling with a dolphin.

Description:

One of the most beautiful aspects of Rome is how great works of art exist seamlessly with everyday life. Of course, this brings about its own challenges, as the Moro Fountain found itself under the wrath of a man and his hammer on a dark September night in 2011. This act of vandalism left the statue slightly damaged. Luckily, the fountain in Piazza Navona isn’t the original, but a copy created in 1874 when several great statues in the Eternal City were restored and relocated. The original Moro Fountain, created by artists Bernini and Mari in 1653, is safely kept in the Villa Borghese.
