The hike-up is short but steep and keep an eye out for buffalo. It can be done in about 1.5 hours. The view from the rim is incredible, right down into the middle of the crater where there is now a lot of shrubs, and the occasional grazing animal. The walk around the rim as one arduous climb but offers great views back over Lake Naivasha and the whole rift valley. Take a day and do this wonderful hike!

I love hiking and this was among my more memorable treks. The peak was clouded over by the time I got there but I did get a few great views on the way up. Even with the clouds, looking down into the steaming crater was awesome. It had it's challenging moments but overall, not too difficult. My mistake was not taking a matatu back to Naivasha and walking back instead. After the mountain,THAT was difficult.
