Ski in and gondola out of the beautiful Mountain Thunder Resort. This resort is a little ways outside of the main part of Breckenridge and offers a secluded feel, but it is located near the gondola that takes you up to all of the slopes on Peak 7 so you can get in your fix of snow. We toured a two-bedroom condo that combined both homey comforts and top notch luxury.
Each unit is privately owned so they all vary slightly and many are excellent for kids. Ours for instance had a beautiful king-size bed in the master and a set of bunk beds and a double bed in the extra bedroom. For more kids’ amenities, check out the playground and the pool across the street from the main building.Recommended for:

We were not a fan of this lodge. Although it is convenienty located near the gondola and the main street, it was too centrally located to us. We visited in the summer and for us, that means spending lots of time outdoors and with the door open, sitting on the patio. Unfortunately, in the unit we were in, that meant we weren't listening to the sounds of running rivers or trees rustling. Instead, we were listening to the traffic noise and the gondola. That wasn't what we were looking for so we decided to check out and find another hotel.

Mountain Thunder Lodge is a complex of individually owned condos that are centrally managed.
This property is a ski in, gondola out kind of place. It is located on one of the ski runs, so in order to get into town you have to take the gondola or drive. The gondola is an excellent place to meet folks from all around the world.
Mountain Thunder also has a shuttle service that runs from 7am-11:45pm.
Some rooms have balconies, and flat screens are by no means the standard here. But who comes to Breckenridge to watch TV?
Mountain Thunder had an amazing pool that had me day dreaming about it long after I left.
The decor here is a red/gold theme. Very original.
Mountain Thunder is near other hotels nearby, and if you're staying here you have access to the fun activities that One Ski Hill has to offer.

My wife and I have been to Breckenridge many times, but we had never seen (or heard) of the Mountain Thunder Lodge. Breck is filled with all kinds of properties and resorts, and quite frankly many get lost in the shuffle.
Not this one! This is a fabulous location location. There's a purpose-built ski run back down to the Lodge for the end of the day. No shuttles, walking, or lifts needed. We're both skiers, so.. wow!
The building is beautiful, in a superbly private location, with views both towards town and to the slopes and beyond. The post and beam architecture goes up four floors from the main floor where the lobby is.
Really nice folks greeted us for check in. The information we got was informative, enthusiastic, yet low key at the same time. The subtext was, this is a well-trained staff. Good light, cozy, everything in this place says upscale ski lodge, including the price. But, isn't there a saying around that says dollars (and calories) don't count in a resort town?
The room.. wow. It had a much bigger than expected living room and immaculate kitchen, complete with granite-tiled countertops and intelligent design (even according to my semi-pro chef wife). For those so inclined, cooking for yourself would be a breeze. (The City Market grocery is a mere quarter-mile away), After dinner you can simply sit in the big comfy couches in front of the gas fireplace with big screen TV above, or, go to close by Breck and enjoy its charms. You get the picture.. it is very easy to relax at this place.
Bathrooms are more than adequate, both for the master bedroom and for the guest bedroom (two bedroom reviewed here). Many have a decks that look up to the ski area, Peak 8 to be exact, and if you haven't ever seen the dark dark shade of blue you get at high altitude dry air, I recommend putting it on your bucket list.
Nice gated swimming pool and adjacent hot tub. It looked like there was a cabana that got use as a bar or activity center in the summer. The pool was amply heated. Everything was tidy.. walks shoveled. Shall I go on? I'll leave the rest to you guys. Great place and highly recommended.Recommended for:
