Mugraby Hostel is located at the beginning of Allenby Street. It is an interesting area, close to everything, but pretty gritty in the evenings. It isn't easy to find, so try to arrive during the day, if possible. The hostel itself is bright and clean. The front desk also has a tourist office for all your traveler needs. The service was casual, but helpful. It has the feeling of a big apartment building and is tiled entirely in white. There's a communal kitchen and lobby that is comfortable and a pleasant place to meet other travelers. Wifi is free and available throughout the hostel. The design of the rooms is basic, but everything is clean and smells good. One thing to note is that there aren't any private bathrooms, only shared toilets and showers. All in all, it's a great place for a budget stay in a central part of town.

On the range of hostels, this one is just fine. Hostels should be cheap and clean and well located. Within that rubric, Mugraby is a decent choice. They offer all the mix of rooms you can expect in a hostel (with private bathrooms, without, dorm rooms, private rooms). The hostel is up a rather large number of dingy stairs, but once there, everything is bright and clean. The website photo is a bit misleading as there’s nothing resembling that building on the street as far as I could see and that led to my own confusion trying to find the darn place. My tip -- count from the odd-numbered side of the street, not the even-numbered side so that you’ll end up at the right place. Somewhat typically in Tel Aviv, Number 19 is not across from 18 and 20 Allenby. Mugraby offers some travel agent services and shared computers downstairs. The staff is helpful, though tough and prickly like so many Israelis.
