An attractive modern art museum with a nice sculpture garden. The collection here isn't quite on par with the great modern museums of the world but it is certainly worth a visit and is easy walking distance from Michigan avenue.

You can visit a museum in any season, but a summer visit to the MCA offers the double benefit of refreshing indoor air-conditioning and a beautiful terraced sculpture garden with views of Lake Michigan.

If you like contemporary art (I mean contemporary, now stuff, not Modern) and you like being challenged, this is a great place to spend a few edifying hours. It's an easy walk from the El and near the Hancock center as well.Recommended for:Art & Design Lovers

Do you have 3 hours to spare? Are you looking for some interesting art to check out? This place is the place for you. The exhibits we saw were quite exciting! The space is well curated and definitely well thought out.
Not sure what it's like during the week, the weekend wasn't too crowded with people, so we enjoyed lots of time to ponder the art and wander the areas.

Pretty cool except a little too contemporary for me maybe? I've always found this to be the case when I visit art museums of contemporary nature. This was how I felt at MoMa and the Guggenheim and many other attractions in New York as well as San Francisco where modern art was on display. For some reason I'm just not that into modern art perhaps?
Some of it seems rather odd, and most of them seem like my 12 year old sister could have done it when she was 7. I do enjoy the sights and the sounds but I think I need a little bit more art education to truly be able to appreciate it. Aside from that, this is a valuable visit as Chicago's downtown is filled with art similar to what you would find in here. They're spread out amongst different alley ways and centers and plazas and squares all over the city. This adds a peculiar flare to the already culturally enriching city of Chicago.
My personal favorite for this museum is that I discovered the likes of Labbits here. The kidrobot creation that has since taken the world by some what of a storm. This very museum store was where I discovered labbits that now fill my room up to the brim. Fantastic.

You can't come to Chicago and pass up on the chance to see the Museum of Contemporary Art of the MCA as it's referred to locally. Tuesdays admission is free for Chicago residents and all you need for proof of residency is to tell them your zip code. The exhibitions are always incredible. The museum store has awesome art books and gift ideas. If you get hungry Puck's Cafe has a great hummus dip.
