Naples is a bustling busy city and has a reputation for being a little rough. Well it is busy but we didn't see any reason why you should avoid going here if you want to see authentic Italian life. Just walking around the streets is entertainment in itself - just watch out for the scooters.

Naples is a total mess. The city is quite dirty, you have to be really careful about thieves, some areas are really 'dismissed'. However there are some interesting spots. I liked Posillipo residential area, quite far from the city centre, with beautiful views on the sea, and Vomero, another residential area.

I absolutely loved my week in Naples. The city is full of interesting history, kind people and great food. Take a walk along the coast line for the most breathtaking view and be sure to take advantage of the easy access to destinations like Capri and the Amalfi Coast!

Got robbed here years ago. Went to the US Embassy and they advised us that it's the norm there. It's an ok place, just hold on to your belongings tightly.

One of the hidden gems of Italy. No one goes because of the supposed danger, but it is one of the most interesting places in the entire country. Do be safe in the historical center after nightfall, but other than that, this city has the highest concentration of the best pizza, coffee, bookstores, and culture of any other place I've visited. The boisterous and gripping character of Naples is found nowhere else.

Naples is a nice port city. I was there when I was younger so I don't remember too many details.

Naples feels like the wild west of Italy. Anything goes when it comes to driving on the road. The only time I've ever been scared driving is when maneuvering between mopeds, cars and ox carts. One guys was texting, smoking a cigarette and steering with his knee while a child was on the back of the seat.

Other than that the food is amazing and the things to see are abundant.

Grittier, louder, and dirtier than Rome, Naples also feels a bit more real and down-to-earth than its sister to the North. The food here is phenomenal (particularly the pizza), and the proximity to beautiful spots like Capri and Sorrento also can't be overlooked. Just don't expect the fashion sense or sophistication of Rome or Milan - this is Southern Italy and it won't let you forget it.

It's chaotic, crowded, dirty, pizza, Maradona, and more. I was not scared at all. Spent one afternoon, and been told that the beach area is amazing.

Find Hotels in Naples:

Description

One of Italy’s most fascinating cities, Naples is full of convolutions and contradictions, of beauty and danger lurking in the same alleyway. Any Italian on or off the peninsula will testify to the religious quality of the pizza, mozzarella and pastries (sfogliatella and pastiera are both must-tries). In fact, the food is bordering on the divine and just may bring a tear to the foodie’s eye. Just don’t try driving to find that amazing restaurant the concierge mentioned, since the traffic is some of the most chaotic in Italy. While you’re at it, leave your bling at home and keep your wits about you, as petty crime is unfortunately rather widespread. Yet the beauty of the centro storico (city center), designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the blue waters of the bay, from which you can ferry to Capri or Ischia, and the smoking volcano Mount Vesuvius on the skyline make Naples a magical place. It may have been founded by the Greeks, but Naples is a sweaty, sexy, wild land set to the soundtrack of musica popolare (traditional folk music), an Italian icon of a city if ever there was one.
