The Narai isn’t particularly memorable, but it’s large and it has a pool. I think a lot of package tourists comming in on buses stay here, and I saw more kids playing around inside than in other cheap hotels. The pool is a little grimy but fine. There are all these flowers for sale outside because the hotel is across the street from a Hindu temple, but inside there are plastic flowers. It’s near a lot of night life because it’s within walking distance of Pat Pong, and all the night time street food near there, and it’s just a street away from a side street selling fruit, ice coffee, and a really good selection of street food in the morning. It’s about a ten minute walk from Chit Lom sky train stop, and it is even closer to a boat stop.Recommended for:

To be honest the Narai hotel didn’t sit so well with me. The rooms were great, well lit and clean but the building seemed a little worn or tired looking. The colours used in the lobby I found to be a little too dark. It’s in a good location and it seems a lot of families and travel groups are staying there. There’s a sign banning durian being allowed in the building, this could be a plus for any travellers weary of durian infused air. They have a buffet restaurant and an Italian one doing pizzas. The lounge offers some live music in the evenings too. The rooms are well lit and look freshly done. The bathrooms were a little compact but nothing to complain about.Recommended for:

A resonable price 3-star hotel to stay around Silom area. The prices range from $50-$60 back in 2004 to 2005. I have gone back to Bangkok many times and whenever I stay in Silom area, I would stay in Narai Hotel. Its not too far from the sky train station, about 10 min walk. Also it is only about 1 mile walk from the Silom waterfront to catch water taxis and go have a drink at the Shangri-La Hotel. Just down the Silom road 1 to 2 blocks away, there were side streets with food stalls and its very convenient to have a bite to eat. Across Narai Hotel is also a very nice and clean massage place, for about $12 per hour.
