45 minutes to this smaller, less expensive ski area. Just the drive up Boulder Canyon to Nederland is a must-do while you're in Boulder. It's spectacular.

    Frozen Dead Guy Days

    3 reviews

On a year round basis, Frozen Dead Guy Days is my favorite even in Colorado. On its own, Nederland is an awesome place to escape the bustle and the heat of Boulder. I drive up to Ned every few weeks to chill out. FDGD takes it to a whole new level. First of all, the festival honors a cryogenically frozen ...

The carousel and nearby Buffalo Bill cafe and candy shop are one of the focal points of Nederland. In the summertime the carousel is thronged with parents and children. It is curious to see this ride inside its handsome wooden building.

Barker Reservoir is the body of water created by Barker Dam, just east of Nederland. This long, graceful body of water makes the approach to town rather picturesque. The Tungsten Trail leads down to the water's edge and along the south side of the reservoir.

Nature's Own is a rock and gem shop in downtown Nederland that sells an incredible selection of rocks, gemstones, fossils, jewelry and decoration. There are many finished products you can buy such as switch plates, goblets, wine holders and the like made out of onyx, quartz and other fine stone. It's probably the most interesting shop in town and a ...

The name Eldora is heavily associated with the nearby ski resort. The village, however, traces its roots the 1800s during the mining boom. A surprising number of the original cabins have survived and are inhabited by intrepid souls. Eldorado Drive is edged with aspen groves and the canyon walls. In the distance rises the Great Divide.

Hessie is another of Colorado's many fascinating ghost towns. Hessie's cluster of log cabins is a half mile inside the Indian Peaks Wilderness area. Some of the cabins are still occupied though the town is now defunct.

    Nederland Mining Museum

West 2nd Street, Nederland, CO, United States

    1 review

Colorado made its name as a mining state. There were a number of mines in the area as well as now defunct villages like Caribou. Nederland has experienced booms in gold, silver and tungsten mining. The mining museum can be seen coming into town from the north. A steam shovel out front is an unmistakable landmark.

    Canary's Song

    Wolf Tongue Plaza

    1 review

It is fitting that Nederland should have one of the first recreational dispensaries in Colorado as this small mountain town was one of the first to legalize recreational pot. It's a small place and the variety of wares is not tremendous but they sell only local edibles and know their products well. They will also sell you a sealed black ...

Wolf Tongue Square is the municipal and commercial heart of Nederland. The town hall dates back to the 1870's while nearby you can find chic cafes and cannabis dispensaries. The Nederland Chamber of Commerce has free bathrooms and during Frozen Dead Guy Days is the place to pick your merch.
