A guesthouse just off Khao San Road, this is a decently priced place (around $12 USD per night for a double) for a nice, clean, air-conditioned room with private bathroom. They have a pool and a restaurant, so it's a great place to come back to to crash or to just spend a lazy afternoon. There's an older guesthouse - New Siam 1 - across from the restaurant, where you can get even cheaper digs (but with shared, smelly bathrooms). So take your pick! There are a lot of accommodation choices in the Khao San area, but I'd say this is one of the better ones. Well-priced, clean and with all the needed amenities.

I like the staff at New Siam 2 and the little pool and large open lobby area. There’s wi-fi there and you can get yourself a drink from the refrigerator and watch people in the pool. Each room has its own little locker in the lobby area so you don’t have to schlep your sun block and stuff back to your room all the time. It’s the kind of place where you can overhear answers to your long-term traveling questions with out having to actually ask anyone outright or open up you Lonely Planet. And your room has its own toilet. Songkhram is a busy road and taxis and tuk tuks overcharge near the hostels. In other areas of the city taxis will use the meter, but in this area lots of taxi drivers pretend to be insulted by the idea of using it or charging a reasonable price. Khao San road is a walk or a ten or twenty baht tuk tuk ride away, not a 100 or 200 bhat drive. It's not that big of a deal you just have to ask a few drivers.

New Siam 2 is in near Khao san road and you get the location, just a little bit off from the main drag. They have a small pool which was popular with a lot of people in the hot weather, the water was a little cloudy though, it might have been an off day? Even so it still seemed clean. The bar offers breakfast, drink and snack options. The rooms were lovely and clean. For 840 baht you can get a double bed, air conditioned room with a private bathroom. I think this is a good budget option for travellers that want to enjoy a few simple pleasures without wanting to pay too much. The staffs were friendly and seemed to have a good banter with guests staying there.
