A great escape if you want to get out of the city for a bit and even better for getting out of the heat. Some great exhibits and a wide variety of fish to gawk at. I'm especially fond of the jellies.

Excellent!!! Great place to avoid the heat! I really liked all the pavillons and fish tanks. I would really recommend it for people with kids and also without!
The only drawback, it opens late, at 10AM. As we are early (and jetlagged) risers, it was late for us, as we were at the gates at 8AM. But we went to check out the Brighton beach first and then had fun in the aquarium.

Pretty large and interesting, with good explanations.
There's also an outdoor area with seals, sea-lions and walruses.

Description:

Get acquainted with a vast variety of marine life, including the Black Footed Penguin, California Sea Lion, Pacific Walrus, Sand Tiger Shark and the Loggerhead Sea Turtle, at the New York Aquarium. Children are excited from the moment they arrive and it does not take very long for adults to follow suit. You can feed the sea otters and penguins at the Sea Cliffs or socialize with beautiful sea creatures at the touch pool. You can also watch sea lions put on a performance for you at the Aquatheater and get up close and personal with different species of Sharks.
