I really don't know how the rest of America views Manhattan, but I grew up as far away from the classic East Coast buildings and bright lights as one could grow up without being in Alaska.
Yes, I grew up in Hawaii, far on the west side of a little island in a place even locals sometimes don't know. Naturally, when I saw the brilliant bright lights of Times Square, I did the classic semi-spin-with-head-tilted-up-in-awe. As I walked through SoHo and the Upper West Side, I felt like I was in a movie.
It's overwhelming, a veritable urban playground and/or maze that offers more than one can take in with their eyes. It's one of the great gems of the world, I really think, as historic as it is fun.

Manhattan is already an amazing area and personifies what a CITY is supposed to be. However, walking around Manhattan during spring time is an absolute delight. The white blossom trees have sprung out and the skies are bright blue, and a slight breeze is passing through the city making Manhattan a wonderful place to visit during spring break.

Like many people, when I say New York City, I'm really thinking Manhattan. Sure, there's more of the city outside Manhattan than in it, but there's more in Manhattan than in most places in the world combined. This is a city of everything. A jungle of skyscrapers and a world unto itself. You can claim you're not a city person all you want, but Manhattan will still lay claim to your heart and stick a Big Apple flag in it for the rest of your life. DC is the capital of the US. Manhattan is the capital of the world.

There are other cities in this world that are larger than New York City. I lived in one--Istanbul, Turkey. However, when you take Manhattan on its own, you realize what the buzz is all about. Manhattan (New York County) is the smallest county in the United States but is home to more than a million people. With only 8 square miles of land on which to build, the city has had to grow up and up and up. I lived in Manhattan for two years and I can tell you that compared to living in the outer boroughs, living in Manhattan is far more exciting. The whirl and rush of the city is always there and right outside your door. It's expensive as hell and at times you'll long for some green space in which to get lost, but the experience of being a true New Yorker will forever change you and will force you to measure every other city against Manhattan island.

Truly one of a kind. New York City is a reflection of innovative minds and hard work. There is something for everyone here in regards to dining, things to see and do, and shopping. As Alicia Keys says, "These streets will make you feel brand new, big lights will inspire you."

NYC is the ultimate city. It doesn't really belong to the US it belongs to the world. You get people from all over the world who come here to live their dream life or else their dream vacations. As a native, I got to know the in's and out's of the city and even though I haven't lived there for years, every time I come back it is refreshingly same in character but always changing in details. What can you say? The restaurants, the bars, the shows, the artists, stores, museums - its endless. But you have to like cities and helps to have money.

I visited New York City for the first time when I was eight years old and fell I love with it! Ever since then I knew i was going to live here. Since I moved here the most memorable meal that I have had is at the Hurricane Club on 27th and Park Ave. Inside is an elegant tropical island decor and the food and drink support the island feel. I always love the different drinks at different restaurant and the drinks at this place are straight from the breach. I had the dink that you share and it come in a watermelon with all different kinds of alcohol in it mixed up. It was great! The whole experience takes you out of the city for a little while.
If I could wake up any where right not it would be on the beach in Greece!
My favorite thing to do in the city is to picnic in the park on a nice day with friends and spend the day goofing off and just relaxing on the lawn. It’s a great way to escape from the city and soak in the sun. It’s like an island on the island.
