Hosting the filming of the Lord of the Rings trilogy was a real investment in tourism for this island nation. Whether a fan of the J.R.R. Tolkien epic or not, there’s no debating that the scenery is spectacular. A tour of some of the top filming sites will take you through places like the Waiau River (River Anduin), the Southern Alps (Misty Mountains), and Tongariro National Park (Mordor). And real film buffs won’t want to miss Hobbiton, which you can still tour in Matamata.

Stunning and magical! Like a mystical fairy land, which is I suppose why New Zealand is often used in films to depict fantasy and other worldly places. Beautiful country with tons of international travelers from all over the world. And with such variety in activities there is really something for everyone.

Land of pristine nature, untouched paradises, and impeccable beauty. New Zealand seems like the last corner of earth that hasn't been ravaged and compromised - it's modern, firmly set in the 21st century, and yet manages to maintain an old world feel, especially in the country. The land is sparsely populated (indeed, there are more sheep than people!) and one can drive for days through rolling meadows, craggy mountains, roaring rapids, plunging gorges, and gentle sloping plains dotted with hay bales, sheep, and grazing cows. As if to reflect its stunning scenery, the people - or "kiwis" - are arguably the friendliest and most hospitable people on the planet.

Aotearoa (the land of the long white cloud), as the Maori call it, is a breathtaking and magical group of islands now called New Zealand. It was the first country to allow women to vote, and the only mammals native to the country could either swim or fly. There are more sheep than people here, and people are called Kiwis, a type of flightless bird. Many daredevil sports have originated here, including bungee jumping and zorbing. From mountains to bays, vineyards to volcanoes, New Zealand is stunningly beautiful, and, so far, it has been one of my most favorite destinations in the world.

General: The best option for pure veggies like me is to do a combination of self cooking and cafe or restaurants. The reason is obvious that the veggies options are limited in restaurants and may be slightly over priced. On the other farm fresh produce and gourmet stuff is available plenty and at a cheap price. So who knows you could try creating some new dishes of your own :-)

New Zealand is currently my favorite place on Earth. I love the wide open spaces, lush green scenery, emphasis on recycling and protecting its environment. The people are welcoming, and adventure seems to be in their blood. . . unless it's in the water.

We drove across South Island in a week stopping at little townships that caught our fancy - Christchurch, Blehneim (delicious glasses of the best sauvignon blanc you'll EVER taste!, Wanaka (sky dive here, much more scenic if that's even possible)

It was an amazing vacation and I didn't think a place as untouched by nature as New Zealand is, exists till I was there.

I remember I was at a hotel in Australia where I met a guy who asked a number of questions about my current trip there. I had answered them with nods and 'oks'. He then replied that it was all better in New Zealand. As it turned out.. he was a kiwi. I like kiwis!

Description

Having served as the backdrop to numerous films, including the mega-blockbuster Lord of the Rings trilogy, New Zealand is best known for its absolutely stunning landscapes as well as the cozy cities that make New Zealand consistently voted the world's number one vacation destination. The sparsely populated dual-island nation offers Auckland (the 'City of Sails'), Maori culture and unimaginable beauty on the North Island and, on the South Island, the Southern Alps, sheep farms and glaciers and fjords. While the South Island is world-famous for its stark natural beauty, just about every imaginable outdoor activity is available on both islands: bungee jumping, ice climbing, cave rafting, fishing, kayaking, mountain biking ... the list goes on. A safe country with an extremely advanced tourist infrastructure, New Zealand has a reputation as one of the easiest places in the world to travel. No matter your budget level, New Zealand has an embarrassment of hotel variations from funky hostels to comfortable B&Bs and sleek city hotels to upscale rural lodges
