Located in southern Rhode Island, Newport could be considered an oasis in the form of a busy but tranquil harbor town that is impressed into a small island among other petite islands wedged between the state's mainland. Once a popular retreat for the millionaires of the Gilded Age, this town now caters to historians, recreation seekers, shoppers, and seafood connoisseurs. Newport offers views of historic luxurious mansions and scenic New England beaches, brand name and boutique shopping, and an excellent taste of New England seafood.

Beautiful colonial town known as America's sailing capital. It has a ideal mix of culture and seaside fun. By day, the mansions on Bellevue Avenue are a must see for their grandeur spanning from Vanderbilt's Gilded Age. There are also various beaches to soak in the sun. By night, there are countless bars and restaurants to enjoy as well as an impressive number of ice cream shops. Pricey but well worth it for a summer getaway!

Newport, Rhode Island is a great spot with everything from nice beaches and quaint restaurants to high end Yacht Clubs, Mansions and fun bars. It's perfect for families, couples and groups of friends. Here's a link to a weekend I did last Summer with some friends...

Newport is full of interesting things. You can obviously visit all the Vanderbuilt Mansions, but I prefer the cliff walk behind them. The view is great. I find that the downtown, while beautiful can be a little hard to navigate unless you visit like the rich people do--on their boats. There is the tower up the hill from the harbor that dates back to the year 800 or so that is constantly in debate as of it's origins. I really like archeological stuff like that.

Newport is a cute town in Rhode Island, a popular summer destination for New Englanders. Be warned, book your hotel in advance because Newport is so popular that even the Best Western is over $250 a night (and often sold out) as you get closer to summer.

Newport is a fun spot with great historic architecture, quirky shops and surfing. It's so easy to walk around to everywhere you might need to go. Come during st. Paddy's day for quite a unique and lively celebration!
