Nirvana's new location in the countryside rates a leisurely day trip. Their lush landscape, dining choices and peaceful surroundings make this some-what expensive choice the perfect special occasion selection. Go at least once during your stay!

Noon - 8pm. Nirvana Restaurant & Retreat is located a few miles west of San Miguel on the banks of the Laja River, nestled among mesquite trees and cacti. The restaurant there, with all outdoor seating, is a fuisine cuisine restaurant owned and run by Chef Juan Carlos Escalante, who is originally from México City and is a graduate both of the Universidad Iberoamericana in México City and of The Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, NY. He has a way with flavors, and offers interesting salads, soups and other appetizers, and yummy seafood and other main courses. He has an impressive garden of organic herbs and vegetables. We really like his food, and the setting at Nirvana is relaxing and a nice change of pace. They are located very near Atotonilco, so we recommend pairing a visit to the church at Atotonilco with a nice long lunch at Nirvana. Phone: 185-2194. Website: www.hotelnirvana.mx. We always recommend calling ahead for large groups.
