For a pastoral and nature infused country, Wellington is the urban heart of the nation. Hipster bars, amazing dining and enough art culture to push start the Lord of the Rings franchise.

Paihia has a small town feel, and I was able to explore quite a bit of it on foot.

Tongariro National Park is New Zealand's oldest national park and a must-do while visiting the North Island. You will find volcanic peaks, emerald lakes, and really amazing views. The Tongariro Crossing is the most popular one-day "tramp" in the country. About 12 miles long, the hike is completely exhausting, but well worth it. Prepare for huge climate variations and prearrange ...

Great place for wine tasting and relaxing on the North island. Instead of driving, you can actually walk to many wineries from the central town square.

Nothing great to report, nothing poor to report. Its a very easy drive from here to Tutukaka for a few days of diving. There is more to do here, Tutukaka has almost nothing. The Whangarei falls is a beautiful falls, and well worth the hike. I'd recommend doing any hikes around it.

I recommend this to anyone who loves the beach and is looking for some down time on their NZ vacation. Raglan has the right level of day-time buzz that starts to slow down when the evening sets in. Tauranga is a city in the North Island of New Zealand. Come and enjoy our beautiful city, have dinner on The Strand over looking the harbour. Or head on over to the Mt and soak up the sun and surf.

One of The Twin Cities (along with Napier) in the North Island's Hawke's Bay area, Hastings is also known for its Art Deco architecture and wineries. The area is popular with Auckland and Wellington weekenders, though kind of off the international tourist route. The only thing that Napier has that Hastings doesn't is the stunning bay views.

I call the Mt New Zealand's Gold coast... But I did grow up there and am biased. It may not be a very big place, but it's beautiful on a nice sunny summers day!! There are salt-water hot pools, you can watch the ships coming and going from the Port, there is a surf beach with plenty of places to ...

Cambridge is a pretty town on the North Island that is filled with horses, antique shops, and tree-lined streets. It is a good stop for a break while driving along Route 1.
