Formerly known as the snootiest, most upscale quarter of Portland proper (now somewhat outshined by new growth in the Pearl District), the Northwest is still a clean, beautiful, posh little pocket from which to explore Portland's funky art, world-class food, and unmatched devotion to coffee and beer. The main drags are 22nd and 23rd streets, where you'll find independent cafes next to national chains like Pottery Barn, but there are plenty of interesting places to stop in on side streets and in adjacent neighborhoods. (Also easily accessible by public transportation.)

One of my favorite parts of the city! The shops and restaurants along 21st and 23rd are some of the best in the city! It's also one of the most concentrated business districts on the west side of the river which makes it convenient for shopping.

The Northwest District is distinct in character. There are many cute restaurants and boutique shops along within convenient walking distance. The abundances of sidewalks and trees, with hilly Forest Park hovering from behind, lends the Northwest District a laid back Pacific Northwestern feel that's harder to find in other districts.
