You can't get much more central than this. Not close to, but in the heart of Queenstown The Novotel is a good option for travellers without independent transport. Unlike many of the accommodation options in Queenstown this one feels like a big city hotel with a slightly cold demeanour. The rooms are one size too small with the generic mini-bar nearly touching the generic queen bed wedged in beside the generic reading chair that you won't end up reading in. The views from some of the rooms are fantastic and some not so much - be sure to inspect your room before settling in. The staff is friendly and welcoming in their own corporate style. The grassy courtyard is a lovely place to be in the warm months and the ultra convenient proximity to town makes up for many of the cookie cutter shortcomings - but not all.

The Novotel boasts one of the best locations in Queenstown being situated on the shores of Queenstown Bay and right next to the CBD area, but parking will cost you as a result. If you are just looking for somewhere to lay your head in between all your Queenstown activities then you’ll probably think it’s fine with everything you’d expect from a standard style hotel (mini bar, in room safe etc) but I found the rooms to be pretty small & sterile – not really my thing I guess. The restaurant was decent enough but with so many fantastic restaurants so close by you’ll be sorry if you don’t get out and explore them. Be sure to ask for a newer room which comes with a heat pump/air conditioner – if you can’t get one the north facing rooms are toasty as in winter but you’ll be baked like bread if you don’t ask for a south facing room in summer!

Like most Novotel properties, there is nothing special about this hotel. It is a good budget hotel option with very basic rooms and amenities. You will definitely be comfortable in this hotel, but it doesnt have any luxury to it at all. If you are planning to be out a lot then I would suggest staying here, but if you want to enjoy your hotel you probably wont be able to enjoy it much at the Novotel
