It's wonderfully family friendly with big chain hotels and low tide beaches that are shallow for kids to play in. Nusa Dua is a nice stop on your Bali trip but, please don't spend all of your time here. Make sure you go to Ubud and check out some of the more stunning beaches during your stay.

Denpasar is the commercial center of Bali and home of the international airport. There is very little here that is of tourist interest. Other reviews refer to other parts of the island, not Denpasar proper. Tourists should not spend much time here unless they want to explore urban Indonesia.

Uluwatu is a surfer's paradise and a world away from the hustle of Kuta Beach. You feel like you're in the country here, not the concrete jungle. The reef breaks are spectacular and if you don't surf, no problem, brah - there's plenty of surf schools/resorts just footsteps away from some of the most consistent swells on the planet.

Nice mellow town on the SE coast of Bali. The requisite string of beachfront hotels from swanky to simple like the paved pleasant beack walk (runs about 2 miles). Water is pleasant and the beach scenic, you have your pick of willing masseurs to rub the tension from you body as you sip your fruit smoothie. More inland there is ...

Legian beach is a quiet(er) beach in Bali, just next to the Kuta Beach. Same beach, same wave, same sand to Kuta but friendlier people and less hustle and bustle of the street vendor. You can rent beach chairs for IDR 35,000 (vendors will open up at IDR 50k) each.

Batubelig used to be a bit of a party beach but all that has been stopped by the authorities and the buildings have been knocked down. I like it simply because it's a little out of the way, quite but not too far from the action. Go to the left and have a meal on the beach, it's just great! ...

Ubud is a special place. Even in Bali. The best way to experience Ubud is walking around. Explore the little streets. See the offerings and hidden temples behind the house. Talk to the people along the way. Some of the best Balinese foods are from Ubud. Highly recommended if you are going to Bali!
