    Fox Theater

    23 reviews

The Fox Theater in Oakland is simply one of the best (the BEST) music venues in the Bay Area. It's historic, beautiful and wonderfully staffed. I've seen Keane here (yes, Keane -- imagine everyone chanting my name and seeing it written across the illuminated stage!) near the front of the stage and it was very comfortable. Last night, I saw ...

    Paramount Theatre of Arts

    8 reviews

One of the most memorable concerts I've been to took place here. I saw Tyrese open for Brian McKnight, and the size of the theater made for a somewhat intimate experience. The sound quality wasn't too loud during the performance, so my group was able to make conversation without distracting the other people around us.

    Cafe Van Kleef

    3 reviews

The original downtown Oakland hipster spot - funky, eclectic, no shame. They are know for grayhounds and salty dogs - made with fresh squeezed grapefruit juice from an old juice press. Excellent bar for mid week - gets too crowded on the weekends, and when there is a band, it's impossible to hear.

    Make Westing

    11 reviews

Hipster-y bar next to the Fox Theater and the 19th Street BART exit. They have a selection of signature cocktails for $8. My favorite is the rye bourbon one with balsamic syrup and basil. The bar is pretty large and there are tables and booths both outside and inside.

    Era Art Bar Lounge

    3 reviews

Such a cool gallery/lounge in uptown Oakland! A mix of hipster and urban rolled into one. The space is huge, with various exhibit areas including a large mezzanine. Great place to enjoy a cocktail and a game on their projection screen too!

    Kona Club

    2 reviews

Kona Club was so much fun! Total Tiki Bar feel, really nice bartenders, good music, and the drinks are so island-y, sweet and made to perfection. They're complete with umbrella and monkeys dangling from the glass! The decor is very fitting and makes you feel like you're on an island somewhere. The drink prices were very fair and our large group ...

    Oracle Arena & Oakland Coliseum

    43 reviews

When I was well into my boy band phase, I watched a concert for both the Backstreet Boys and 2 for Nsync here. The venue can be accessed either by car or BART. Depending on the time of year, the performances are either held in the coliseum or outdoors. Either way, you're sure to have a memorable time.

Oakland's Zeitgeist! Minus the bikers. Patio is food and dog friendly, drinks are cheap, there's pool. Perfect for a Sunday afternoon, or anytime, really.

    Lake Merritt

    24 reviews

Simply beautiful. The area around Lake Merritt changes my impression of Oakland from a strictly urban city to one of hip eateries, beautiful lights and lots of nature. If I could live anywhere in Oakland, it would be here.

    Oakland Metro An Opera House

    2 reviews

This is a great venue. This is a huge space fills that up with sound allowing acoustics to breath, so things can get loud without being overwhelming. There is a full bar, that is reasonably priced with a limited selection, but being primarily a music venue, it's more than plenty varied enough. The focus here is music, and theater. I ...

    Portal Oakland

    3 reviews

I really enjoy this tiny bar and its outdoor Beer Garden. it's located right off Lake Merritt with ample parking, good microbrews (a bit pricey, but that's par for the course in the Bay in general) and friendly staff. The interior bar has a chill vibe and fills up quickly on Fridays and Saturdays. Outdoors can be a bit chilly ...

    The New Parish

    4 reviews

This is one of the more "raw" venues for music. It's kept its casual Oakland vibe, but the music that's made here is top class. If you're looking to hear both internationally and locally acclaimed R&B/hiphop/etc. musicians, this is the place to go!

    Oakland Zoo

Not a very big zoo, you can easily cover it all in one trip. There are nice places to just sit and enjoy the breeze so having time at hand will always be good. I loved the giraffe enclosure and spent the most time there.

    Grand Lake Theatre

I haven't gone to this theater in a while, until a couple days ago. We came here to watch Despicable Me 2 in 3D!!! That i really love about this theatre is that its super spacious, its not usually super crowded, not a lot of ghetto kids running their mouths during the movie, and that old school vibe. This is ...

    Children's Fairyland

    12 reviews

In downtown Oakland there is a place called Fairyland. It is a very old and unique place. My mother would frequent it as a young child. I took my daughter there a number of times as well. It is the most unique theme park I know of. You can find them all hereā€¦ The Queen of Hearts, The Cheshire Cat, ...
