    Yoshi's Jazz Club & Japanese

    20 reviews

Yoshi's is by far the most famous and historic jazz venues in all of the West Coast. Pretty much every single one of the legendary jazz musicians in the past has gone through Yoshi's, and Yoshi's has done an awesome job in preserving the venue in its original form as closely as possible. It's not as new and swanky as ...

A nice area with hotels, inns, restaurants, bars, movie theater, nightlife, and cool place to stroll and hangout. There are farmers and craft markets on weekends and holidays. You can take the ferry from here to San Francisco. A nice place to see as it's always changing.

    Paramount Theatre of Arts

    8 reviews

An Art Deco stunner! When I lived in the East Bay, loved going to screenings of classic movies here, it's the full vintage experience...they do a spin game, an organist plays a few numbers, and they screen a short before the feature film. Their live performance line-up is impressive too.

    Era Art Bar Lounge

    3 reviews

Such a cool gallery/lounge in uptown Oakland! A mix of hipster and urban rolled into one. The space is huge, with various exhibit areas including a large mezzanine. Great place to enjoy a cocktail and a game on their projection screen too!

    The New Parish

    4 reviews

This is a huge venue in downtown Oakland. IT isn't much from the outside, but inside, it has 2 floors of brick-walled industrial modern feel. You can observe the first floor from the second floor loft like arrangement. There is a long bar downstairs to get your drink on. I came here for a big party event with perhaps 500 ...

    Kona Club

    2 reviews

Kona Club was so much fun! Total Tiki Bar feel, really nice bartenders, good music, and the drinks are so island-y, sweet and made to perfection. They're complete with umbrella and monkeys dangling from the glass! The decor is very fitting and makes you feel like you're on an island somewhere. The drink prices were very fair and our large group ...

    Barlata Tapas Bar

    2 reviews

A nice tapas bar in North Oakland's Temescal district. Food is authentic Spanish, the chef originally from Catalonia. There's a nice selection of tapas made with Spanish cheeses, cured meats, salads, and my favorite paellas. They have happy hour M-F with tapas at $5 and drinks from $4-$6.

A Great Good Place for Books

    2 reviews

This is a cozy and friendly neighbourhood bookstore that is right across the street from the Montclair Pharmacy. It also seems to be the literary equivalent of Cheers, where everyone knows your name (especially if you're a kid). And it's almost Midwest (Prairie Lights?) in approach to literacy, community events and support, and unpretentious friendliness. Offering a plate of cookies ...

    Conga Lounge

    2 reviews

The Conga Lounge is an old school throwback club in the heart of College Avenue, where former Cal grads in Berkeley Brown Shingle homes eat at side walk Cafes and raise Yuppie Puppies in high-end strollers and watch Berkeley Rep Theater productions. Upstairs in this tiny little place is a laid back vibe that is an occasional 80's party, where ...

    Linden Street Brewery

    1 review

I have previously enjoyed Linden Street Brewery suds at Beer Revolution in Oakland, Creek Monkey in Martinez, and a few social events. This time around, I visited the West Oakland Mothership as part of a UC Berkeley get together. I love the architecture of the 19th Century brick building that used to house a wire factory. This includes the original ...

    Stork Club

    1 review

When you want music really bad, they have some bad music for you! I should know, I have played there with at least a few bands. The stork has some quirks, but honestly, they just don't matter as the place has always been an incubator for raw local music. I think they used to book just by filling in the ...

    Graduate The

    1 review

Plastics. The Graduate is small, friendly, and comfortable. My parents would like this place and would probably pass for one of their old Milwaukee neighbourhood dives (sans Friday Night Fish Fry). I like the free popcorn, the well loaded jukebox, seasonal sports on the television, the decent drink selections, and the nice prices at happy hour. This is a Cash ...

    Liege Spirits Lounge

    1 review

Liege is a very nice bar within what I call Old Oakland. I was here for a private reception and enjoyed just sitting at the bar and talking with folks. The bartenders were also friendly and knew their mixology well. They also serve food and offer comfortable lounge seating and television vieowing.

    Paul Marcus Wines

    1 review

There seems to be a plethora of good specialty wine shops in the greater East Bay these days, of which Paul Marcus ranks right up there. But it does make me wonder how they can all stay in business, especially in this economy. Gayle and I wandered around Market Hall and eventually worked our way towards Paul Marcus Wines near ...
