I am struggling between giving this hotel 2 or 3 stars, I ultimately decided to 2 stars since I would probably not stay here again. We chose to go to Cozumel right before hurricane season started so this hotel was basically empty. Upon arrival we received welcome drinks of champagne while we received our room keys. The resort is quite large with a main building housing some restaurants and the lobby and then separate buildings with the rooms. The lobby area has a strong mexican decor aesthetic. It was nothing fancy and had ceramic tiles and colorful pottery around the lobby. The rooms themselves were large with nice big bathrooms with standing showers and separate bathtubs. The rooms were quite dull with the decor and cheap looking. all the rooms had balconies as well, but with limited views. We spent most of our time by the pool and beach. The pool area was pretty nice and the pool also had a volleyball net which was fun. While the accommodations and the pool were alright, especially for the price. It was the food that is the sole reason why I wouldnt stay here again. The resort is an all inclusive resort and the meals are all buffet style except for the specialty restaurants which you have a certain number of allowances for depending on your package and need advance reservations. The food was awful- i ended up eating chips and salsa for every meal because all the other food was questionable. I felt like we were eating camp food and even the thought of the food is making my stomach upset as we speak. It was really god-awful. Even the specialty restaurant was subpar. Since the resort is about 30 minutes away from downtown, there are not any other food options nearby. The plus side to this resort is that you can drink all you want, but the alcohol is low quality. This would be a better option for kids on a college spring break trip than for couples or young professionals unless you are not a very tight budget. The staff was fine for the most part, but the only thing that really rubbed me the wrong way is that each room is assigned a hotel ambassador that will keep bugging you to book one of their adventure packages for diving, jet skiing, etc. It can get a little annoying because they will keep asking you every time you see him.
