Don't let the name deceive you as this is more "hostel" than "hotel." The rooms are small with a tiny TV, sink, mini fridge and microwave and no bathroom. Each floor shares one men's and one women's bathroom located in the center of the hall, dormitory style. That said, it's got a great location-- walking distance from El Torrito (which has a killer happy hour), Coffee Bean and other restaurants.Recommended for:

I heard that this budget property was originally built as corporate housing for McDonnell Douglas and only later converted into a hotel. It’s located in a clean and safe neighborhood in Santa Monica, and even most locals don’t know it’s there. There are several good eateries nearby, such as The Counter, which specializes in customized burgers. And the same owners of the hotel have a restaurant that’s right around the corner called the OP Café – if you get there weekdays between 7am and 9am, there are breakfast specials for $3.99. The rooms are basic, but they do come with a fridge and a microwave, and they are also cute and clean, and WiFi is free. Parking is the attached lot is also included in the price – and for L.A., that’s a big bonus.Recommended for:
