Fall River Road is one of those classic Colorado driving experiences, on part with motoring up Pikes Peak. The road is about eleven miles long and is gravel most of the way with many switch backs. During the summer months when it is open, there's an incredible profusion of wildflowers. The views are incredible and you're likely to spot some wildlife.

Great views and a fun drive. It closes a little earlier than Trail Ridge does, so don't wait too late in the season. There's a little signage that is a bit dire, but on a dry day, any rental car will do just fine. Lots of room to pull off to check things out, and a lot to see - both up close and across the valley. It will take a little longer to get up above treeline, but not that much (if you don't get distracted).
