There are many Luau experiences to be had on Maui but the Old Lahaina is the one that is most authentic and gives you the best historical information about the development of the hula and its importance to the Hawaiian culture. Highly recommended.

Unfortunately, we were not able to watch the main performance because it started to rain. But the good was delicious and the service was great. Servers and greeters were really friendly.

I'm not the type of traveler who likes touristy dinner shows, but if you're bound and determined to see an artificial luau in Hawaii, then this one is know for being the best at keeping Native Hawaiian traditions alive, from the pre-show games that kids can learn how to play to the singing and chanting later on. Make your reservations as far in advance as possible.

Make reservations early so you can get traditional Seating in first-row around the stage, guests are seated cross-legged on cushions and dine from a low table

Located right behind the Cannery Mall in Lahaina. This is a popular Luau. It is a traditional luau with Emu pork cooked slowly underground. The food is plentiful and delicious serving traditional Hawaiian favorites (including palms of fern and poi). The have a special buffet for the kids (hot dogs etc.) who are less adventurous with the palette. Open bar for adults.

Before the actual luau starts, there are different spots where people sell some carved Hawaiian sculptors or introduce you to the Hawaiian instruments. Try to get a picture of the sunset while here. You also get to enjoy unlimited cocktail drinks while you're here. The luau starts with the unvieling of the roast pig, which is fun. They let a few tables at once grab some food at the buffet bar, so you don't have to wait in line too long. The food at the buffet is good, but make sure you also save a little room for the desserts that come to your table afterwards. The show itself was pretty impressive, though there was no fire eating.

    Downtown Lahaina
    Front Street

Hawaiian history seeps from every aspect of historic downtown Lahaina. Spend some time strolling Front Street, the main drag of this seaside area pact with wonderful restaurants, galleries and little shops selling everything from sun hats to Hawaiian gold. Whether perched on the ocean's edge, tucked into an historic inn, located up a side street or down an alley, you're sure to find a special spot amongst the restored wooden buildings here that will charm you beyond belief. Add to this charm the warm tropical breeze off the ocean, pure sunshine and some live acoustic guitar music coming from any one of the many outdoor eateries here, and you've got the magic of Lahaina.

If you are going to do a Luau while you are on Maui, this is definitely the one to do. It is the most authentic, with amazing hula performances. The food is served buffet style and is good, not great. The cocktails (pina-coladas and mai-tais) are served out of a slurpee machine with very cheap booze. But the atmosphere and the performance make it worth your while. Make sure to book ahead.

I think this is the best Luau on the island. Make your reservations in advance and arrive when the doors open. Great umbrella drinks !

You have to go to a Luau.
This is the best on the island. However it is almost always booked. Go to another one and you will still love it.

Description:

With plenty of warm aloha, the Old Lahaina Luau is widely regarded as one of the best dinners shows of its kind in Hawaii. Traditional Hawaiian music and swaying hula dancers take to the ocean-view stage in West Maui, with island specialties filling the dinner buffet tables and tropical cocktails flowing from the bar. Tickets sell out weeks, even months in advance. Tip: Show up early for demonstrations of Hawaiian cultural arts and games.
