Learn the history of the Old Mission San Luis Obispo.
I usually come here if I'm by downtown SLO and want to stroll around after eating. Many families come here to explore or just walk after having a meal from downtown. Occasionally there would be events. Great place to take your kids or your mates. During the holidays, their trees would be decorated.

If you're following California's Mission Trail along El Camino Real (mostly Hwy 101) from San Diego north to Sonoma, this is one of the minor sights along the way. Extensively rebuilt and renovated, then finally restored to its original period look, Mission San Luis Obispo is still an active parish church. It'll only take you an hour or less to tour it. Perhaps the most scenic part of the mission is the leafy plaza outside, where you can sit by the creek and listen to the mission church bells ring on the hour.

I love history and think the Mission is cool. Those less interested in the history of the California Missions might enjoy Mission Plaza on Friday nights during the summer. Live bands. Dancing. Leave your judgements at home and enjoy some free-spirited fun. In the shadow of history.
