On the outskirts of San Francisco Chinatown, you will find this hidden gem. I was curious what this place would be like when I found out it was right around the corner from the Chinatown gate, but my qualms were eased once I set foot in a very plush, nice, and friendly hotel! This is the sister to the Orchard Hotel, which is their flagship and I cannot comment on it, but if it's on par with this one I'd be down for staying.
They have king bed and two double bed configurations, I personally opted for the doubles since I was staying with my sister. They were very comfortable and had nice linens. There was a chair and side table for a guest to chill out on, an okay flat-screen TV, and a decent bathroom with soap shampoo and conditioner in dispensers, which is cool by me.
Note: this is a "green" hotel, which basically means that you don't get bath products to take home, and that's fine. But it also means you get super low flow water from the shower and sink, which I'm not cool with. I'm a fairly large dude, and at 6'2" it's already difficult for me to use hotel showers (I usually have to squat uncomfortably to get my head under the shower head), but that flow of water makes it even more difficult for me to bathe to the extent of cleanliness I would prefer. I'm all about conservation, but they go too far with that. I mean, I am still paying a fairly substantial rate for this room, and you can better believe that all the money they are saving with their "green" methods are NOT being passed on to you!
Okay, now that has been disclosed, let me summarize my main points:
-1 Nice and clean
-2 Comfortable beds
-3 Friendly staff (I may have forgotten to mention that earlier, sorry)
-4 Somewhat annoying ecological practices
Having said all that, 4 stars. You could stay at better, but it'll cost you more, and you could do MUCH worse in San Francisco, that's for sure.Recommended for:

Want to be an eco-pioneer, while still having all the luxuries of a top hotel located just a few feet away from Union Square and the Chinatown gate? One of the first truly green hotels in the country, the Orchard Garden Hotel is LEED-certified by the US Green Building Council. Heck, even if you hate the environment, you'd still love staying here. The pin-drop quiet rooms are topped with a gorgeous roof deck overlooking downtown and each room is tastefully decorated in sophisticated and sustainable natural wood tones.Recommended for:

I love that California's first LEED-certified accommodation is a 10-story hotel in the center of downtown San Francisco. The location is just about perfect, blocks from Union Square and BART and a few meters from the Chinatown gate and a dozen restaurants. The recycled glass windows are practically soundproof, which is much appreciated in the middle of downtown. The rooms are small but they have everything you need. Plus, it's all as sustainable as possible, from the fabric and glues covering the chairs to the mattresses and carpets. Plus, there's an organic restaurant on the ground floor, a rooftop garden (hint: it's open to the public, so anyone can go) and a gym and office.

It's the second time I've stayed here and it's excellent. Great location(3 blocks from Union Square), big room and bathroom, it's fresh, nice and clean. The beds are fantastic and it's a great complimentary wifi.
Great hotel at very reasonable prices and I'd recommend it to anyone coming to SF.
