    Rose Garden Arena

    4.5
    11 reviews

Portland's giant arena is beautiful, well-designed, and makes every effort to maximize audience experience no matter what seats you can afford. Parking is convenient and cheap (relative to many California arenas, that is), and though the food is expensive, at least it's good. This is one of my favorite indoor places on the West Coast to see a major act.

    Oregon Shakespeare Festival

    11 reviews

Gayle and I have come up in late March/early April for the last 6 years. The Outdoor Elizabethan Theatre is closed, but the weather is nice, the town is less crowded, and the hotel rates are lower (we stay at the Peerless). Ashland and the Oregon Shakespeare Festival is a great place to hang out and enjoy! Besides the high ...

The pin is a bit north of where Meadows actually is located, which is on Mt. Hood not Hood River. I learned to ski at Meadows and have fond memories.

    Northwest District

    Northwest District, Portland, OR, USA
    4.5
    6 reviews

Formerly known as the snootiest, most upscale quarter of Portland proper (now somewhat outshined by new growth in the Pearl District), the Northwest is still a clean, beautiful, posh little pocket from which to explore Portland's funky art, world-class food, and unmatched devotion to coffee and beer. The main drags are 22nd and 23rd streets, where you'll find independent cafes ...

    Elizabethan Theatre/Allen Pavilion

15 South Pioneer Street, Ashland, OR
    4.5
    3 reviews

This version of the Elizabethan Theatre was built in 1959 and was patterned after London's 1599 Fortune Theatre. Two different structures came before it, and I have had the pleasure of attending performances before and after the construction of the Paul Allen Pavilion in 1992. Each year, three plays are offered in rotation Tuesdays through Sundays in the Elizabethan Theatre ...

Wandering around Portland's Pearl District, It was awesome to stumble across an actual bricks-and-mortar retail outlet of my favorite New Zealand wool clothing brand. Sure, it's not cheap. But it's sustainable manufactured and with some care, one of these wool sweaters, jackets or pullover tops should last you 10 years.

    WillaKenzie Estate

19143 Northeast Laughlin Road, Yamhill, OR
    4.5
    3 reviews

WillaKenzie has a beautiful property in the Willamette Valley with rolling hills full of vineyards and gorgeous gardens. It's interesting to try their different Pinot Nors--it's amazing how different they taste depending on their vineyard location. Enjoying a wine and cheese tasting from their deck is a great way to spend an afternoon.

Bar Avignon is an upscale bar specializing in French wine and French food. That said, the focus here is the word bar, so the menu items are limited and the servings are small. The happy hour options are unique. I had manila clams with sausage and fennel. I also enjoyed the duck pastrami and foie gras stuffed pasta. The foie ...

Truly a City of Books! Powell's in downtown Portland takes up an entire city block plus a second building! There are several rooms each with various sections. Make sure to make it all the way up to the Pearl room on the top floor to check out the rare book collection.
