Surprisingly, I liked OPH more than I expected to. Its along the rows of restaurants in the Waikamilo Shopping Center, quiet and unassuming except for the line of people outside its doors. Parking can fill up in that tiny parking lot pretty fast. Stepping in, we see old school wood decorations. Luckily I found the sign up list at the cashier, so sign your name up and wait! Wait wasn't too bad for a Saturday morning, maybe 20 minutes at the most.
Saw a white board with specials, but ended up with the corned beef hash omelette with the 3 buttermilk pancakes side ($8ish), add a side of spam. The corned beef was real corned beef! Not that canned stuff. The omelette can be made fluffy or flat, and believe me, the fluffy factor was not lost on me. It was beautifully puffed up, light and delicious. The side of spam came with 4 pieces.
Remember that they have additional syrups on request! My hubby got the boysenberry syrup and said it was complimented the ......DELICIOUS Lilikoi butter!!! The butter was one of the items on the board and it was worth the $2.50 add. Combination of sweet and salty. It was PERFECT with the pancakes. I personally liked the original maple syrup with the lilikoi butter, but I'm thinking anything goes well with that butter.
Free refills on coffee. One of the better places I've had for breakfast. Reasonable prices? I definitely will be back.

Decor hasn't been touched since the 70s. In DIRE need of a remodel. Food is mediocre as is the service, but they have decent pancakes and the prices are on the reasonable side for Honolulu. They validate parking in the attached garage.

HAHA...My old stoppin grounds...KALIHI...The GHETTO of Honolulu...and you know what...I LOVE IT!
I was still young and growing up when I originally moved here so many years ago...For a Poor Man just starting out, Kalihi was the place to build the Wayde's World Hawaii foundation...All about CHEAP ONO GRINDZ and The Original Pancake House in Kalihi is the place to eat on a budget and fill your belly up good!
I don't care what you get here it's going to be damn good, from the the Coconut and Hawaiian Pancakes to the Macadamia nut Belgian waffle to the endless combos of omelettes!
I eat and finish everything here and they seriously give you more then you can eat for your buck!
If you think you're just going to walk in this place for breakfast and not have to wait at least 30min...lol, you're friggin dreaming brah! This place gets CHOKE busy!
You will be hard pressed to see ANYONE who isn't local! Tourists here in Kalihi...R U KIDDING me?
I LOVE IT! The waitstaff are some of the crazies SMART A$$ES I HAVE SEEN! I always ask for, well, I won't say her name, but she's in her 60's and has a mouth of a truck driver...She cracks me up...every time I go I ask her how her day is, we talk story, but it always start off with saying how sucky it is, but by the end of the meal I got her laughing...She always loves to crack jokes with me...asking how much of a tip I'm going to give her this week for being a crab...I tell her, if she can blow me away with something more outrageous she'll get a bigger tip...She always does.
So when it comes to service...this waitstaff is not afraid to be blunt and they are honest good people working to make a buck and put food on their own tables and I say Kudos to them...when you have all locals coming in here and the wait staff being known my name it's just one big friggin ohana here folks!
Please go here, try to get here early as possible...wait in line, don't bitch...you'll get plenty of that from the staff and it's an amusing thing to watch fo sure.
There are just some places you cherish, places that just make you feel like home, no matter where you are originally from...this place is one of them and I don't give a damn if people are crabby sometimes or service is slow...these people are real....real hard workers and honest with their customers...I never want you to kiss my A$$...I want you to look me in the face and tell me I need to be a little more patient because it's busy...that's what my grandmother would say to me...in fact she would tell me to shut up and that it's coming out as soon as she can get it on the table. That's real, that's raw and I just like it that way.
