Oto-Oto Izakaya Japonaise is a super chill and trendy place to have Japanese food. If you don't know what an izakaya is, it's basically a Japanese bar that sells alcohol and snacks. These establishments are popular in Japan, where all of their restaurant chains are -- this is the FIRST one in the United States! If you're worried that your food is being prepared by non-Japanese chefs, rest assured that these cooks are the REAL DEAL! We had a conversation with the manager, who told us how the chefs came from Japan and are learning English and adjusting to the culture in the USA.
I finally got to come for their happy hour, which is from 3-7PM daily.
The bar itself is pretty neat because it's very trendy (including lights on the counter top) and you can stare at the alcohol bottles on glass shelves above you.
Unfortunately there's so sushi bar, you can't watch the chefs prepare your meal. There's a TV between the hostess and the bar, but I have yet to see it on.
The lychee-tini is worth trying! For those of you that don't like vodka, their “tini's” are made with 3 parts Japanese soju and 1 part sake.
The specialty rolls were pretty good, but I didn't like that one of the decorative sauces on the plates was mayonnaise based. Hate mayonnaise and always will; ended up scraping off the sauce to enjoy my rolls with wasabi.
My friends have enjoyed the food and atmosphere so hopefully they'll drag me back with them! It hasn't been popping in here yet, but hopefully that will change soon.Recommended for:Trendsters
